Description:
This position assists in greeting visitors, answering questions, sharing safety and recreation information, and supporting interpretive or outreach programs. The role offers valuable experience in public engagement, customer service, and natural resource communication within federal land management agencies.
This position will have two distinct sets of duties, front-line responsibilities at the visitor center information desk: giving park information, answering visitor questions, helping visitors with orientation, sharing park rules, assisting Junior Rangers etc. The position also involves presenting interpretive programs and assisting with park events. (Interpretation is connecting park resources with park visitors through a variety of techniques, which the intern will be trained in. It does not require proficiency in a foreign language.)
Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist visitors in person, by phone, or via email.
- Provide accurate information about recreation opportunities, park rules, permits, and afety.
- Assist with staffing visitor centers, exhibits, and information desk.
- Support educational and interpretive programs or special events.
- Help prepare and distribute brochures, maps, and outreach materials.
- Maintain visitor areas, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; enjoys working with the public.
- Interest in natural resources, parks, outdoor recreation, or public service.
- Basic computer and office skills (email, spreadsheets, document editing).
- Ability to remain courteous and professional in high-traffic or stressful situations.
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups or leading short presentations.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in communications, recreation, or related fields preferred.

This position requires a highly motivated, responsible, personable individual who may be interested in pursuing a career with the National Park Service. Successful candidates must pass a background investigation. Housing for interns will be provided.
Bryce Canyon National Park provides a mentoring program for the interns with different subject matter experts. Interns will be assigned a mentor and provided with interpretive and program building training within the park, and will strengthen their communication skills throughout the summer. Interns will attend workshops on federal resume building, goal setting, and orientation to public lands, to help set up success for their futures. Interns may also be able to attend trainings within the park to help enhance their job experience and give them different opportunities, including an introduction to the work done in other divisions. Mentor will do regular check-ins with employee to make sure their learning needs are being met.
Bryce Canyon, known for its amazing and colorful hoodoos, sits atop the Paunsaugunt Plateau in south-central Utah. Elevation is 8000-9000 feet. Summer temperatures average lows in the 50s and highs in the 80s. It is 20-30 minutes to the nearest small grocery stores located in Tropic and Panguitch, and an hour-and-a-half to full services in Cedar City or Richfield. Park housing is within the park. There are opportunities for hiking within the park and surrounding areas.
